Va-Va-Vivaah: Eco-Chic Indian Wedding Ideas
Indian weddings (also called Vivaah) are some of the most complex, colorful & beautiful wedding ceremonies in the world. The rituals and traditions that exist within them are elaborate and enjoyable for the wedding party and guests alike. The multi-day celebrations have many opportunities to go green & still end up being Va-va-vivaah!
My inspiration for this blog comes from this plantable Indian Motif Wedding Suite. It comes in several colors including purple and gold, pink and orange & teal and yellow.
You can get invitations, RSVP cards, place cards, save the date cards, menu cards, favor tags and even thank you cards. These cards are seeded which means so your guests can plant them in their yard or flower pot and grow wildflowers after your beautiful wedding.
Eco-Chic Indian Wedding - Local Vendor Love
A Vivaah utilizes approximately 15 to 25 Indian wedding vendors, from henna artists and sari vendors to animal handlers to florists & musicians. You can support your local Indian culture and community by hiring locally owned vendors instead of national chains. The money you pay them for their services stays in your community and helps a local family thrive instead of being funneled into the corporate offices of a national chain.
Another plus of using local vendors is freshness. Instead of your flowers being picked 2 days prior, then subjected to a long plane ride from India, China or Holland which results in less fresh flowers with more broken and bruised flowers, they are picked the day before & driven to your venue. The result is brighter, fresher flowers which didn’t create a huge carbon footprint.
The same goes for the food for your Pitthi (good luck ceremony), Mehndi (henna design party), and wedding day. Vegetables and fruits taste much better fresh and local than they do frozen and imported. Your guests will love the taste and your wallet will love the cost savings!
Since Indian Weddings are known to have lots of food it's also smart to have one of your wedding guests collect the leftover food afterward. The food can be taken to a local charity to prevent any waste.
Eco-Friendly Indian Wedding - Dazzling Decor
I’m going to give you one of my favorite ways to create amazing and colorful eco-chic event spaces with minimal budget. They are LED uplights. They cost less than flowers or chiffon overlays for the columns & because they are LED, they also save electricity. It seems like a small insignificant detail but they can give you tons of room color while still creating a clean, (not cluttered) passionate room feel. For example, Just a few pink uplights placed around the room highlights this teal focal piece perfectly.
LED uplights work even better in white spaces, as this tent / marquee illustrates. It’s the perfect way to wash your entire space in the amazing brilliant colors that make your vivaah so perfect & memorable.
